The Scene of Shooting Scenic Seaside Links Isn't as Seamless as it Seems

The Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, or Balgownie as it's known to locals, dates back to 1780 and is the sixth oldest golf club in the world. Our friends at Golf Away Tours recently hosted several groups at this historic links, and we at Epic Golf Memories were thrilled to have the opportunity to document the day for their guests.

While the course has terrific pedigree as the host of such tournaments as the Senior British Open, Walker Cup and Scottish Open, and was bestowed with the Royal designation by King Edward VII in 1903, it's safe to say there are more scenic courses in existence. Shooting seaside links can be a challenge for photographers, as they can't always rely solely on scenery for quality photos. However, our photographers were up for the challenge! Various angles of the golfer's shots, wonderful topography, huge revetted bunkers, the unique Aberdeen coast and some smiles from the players combined to make this a great collection of photos.

In his Confidential Guide to Golf Courses, architect Tom Doak admits to "sorely underrating" Royal Aberdeen in his first book. We think the pictures from this shoot are proof that Balgownie offers an authentic links golf experience: fun, testing and yes, even scenic.
